Family tradition and experience in wine making
Using science while respecting traditional methods
Proud family identity
Once his studies completed in Germany, Andreas Dourakis returned to his roots and started the family winery in 1988 which is proud of its identity and tradition. Purchasing land around his father's vineyard, local varieties like Romeiko, Kotsifali, Vilana and Malvasia Aromatica di Candia are cultivated with international grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.
Stone-built winery
Located South of Vrisses, between Chania and Rethymno, a scenic ride guides you to a special stone building. In the yard, you can find a small ancient stone press dating of the Minoan period. Nature, art and wine blend in a unique setting. The family hosts art exhibitions, and has a lovely venue for weddings and private parties, while a wine tasting cellar is set-up for the public to enjoy.
Combining science and tradition
The soil is rich with south facing slopes and the area has one of the lowest rainfalls in Greece. The family philosophy is one of knowledge and experience. They pride themselves in creating fine quality wines using science and traditional methods. With Andreas’ guidance, his son Adonis (himself an oenologist) and his daughter Evie continue the proud tradition. And, as Andreas would say: Wine is the driving force behind life itself.
